Oil immersed Power Transformers

Kampa builds oil-immersed power transformers from 25 kVA to 2,500 kVA at 10 kV, 11 kV, 20 kV, 30 kV, 33 kV and 35 kV, for outdoor distribution duty and for plant supply where the load profile favours oil cooling. The oil does two jobs at once, insulation and heat transfer, which is why an oil unit carries sustained overload better than a dry type unit of the same rating and costs less per kVA.

Why Choose Kampa

Kampa offers high-performance medium and high-voltage power distribution solutions that combine reliability, efficiency, and competitive pricing. Our products are designed to optimize performance while reducing total cost of ownership, helping your business achieve more for less.

Industrial Power Distribution Protection Product Catalog

Kampa medium-voltage and high-voltage power transmission and distribution solutions combine advanced technology with reliable performance to meet the power needs of various industries and cities.

Products Advantage

Oil does two jobs in the same medium: it insulates the winding and carries heat to the tank wall. That combination gives an oil-immersed unit a higher short-term overload capability than a dry type unit of the same rating, and it holds the cost per kVA lower because the insulation and the cooling system share one material.

The maintenance side is real and should be planned for rather than discovered: oil testing on a schedule, gasket and breather inspection, and a bunded foundation wherever the installation rules require containment. On an outdoor feeder that is a normal routine. Inside a building it is the reason most projects choose dry type instead.

Two product pages cover the range. The oil immersed distribution transformer covers 25 to 2,500 kVA at 10 kV through 33 kV, including the step-down duty from feeder to 0.4 kV. The 35 kV oil-immersed distribution transformer covers the 35 kV class on its own page, because clearance, cable termination and switchgear cost change at that level.

Where the unit sits on an overhead line rather than on a plinth, the pole mounted transformer arrangement explains the mounting and protection differences. Cost per kVA is set out in the oil-filled transformer price guide. Every unit is quoted against network data with IEC 60076 test reports.

What is an oil-immersed transformer used for?

It steps a medium voltage feeder down to the utilisation voltage, usually 0.4 kV or 0.415 kV, for a plant board, a building or a distribution substation. The oil insulates the winding and carries the heat out to the tank, which is what gives the type its overload tolerance on a loaded feeder.

Which voltage classes and capacities are available?

10 kV, 11 kV, 20 kV, 22 kV, 30 kV, 33 kV and 35 kV on the primary, with 0.4 kV or 0.415 kV on the secondary, from 25 kVA to 2,500 kVA. The 35 kV class is quoted on its own product page because clearance and cable termination change at that level.

Why does an oil-immersed unit cost less per kVA than dry type?

The oil is both the insulation and the cooling medium, so one material does two jobs and the winding does not need the resin and the curing process. At the same kVA the oil unit is smaller in cost, though not necessarily in footprint once the bunded foundation and any fire separation are counted.

Where can an oil-immersed transformer be installed?

Outdoors on a concrete plinth, on a pole for small ratings, or in a detached substation with the required fire separation and a bunded floor. Installing one inside an occupied building is usually refused by the fire authority, which is where the dry type family takes over.

What oil maintenance is required?

Dielectric strength and moisture testing on a schedule set by the operator, a check of gaskets, the breather and the silica gel where fitted, and a visual inspection for leaks at the bushings and the tank seams. The interval depends on loading and climate; a sealed unit on a light duty feeder needs far less attention than an overloaded one in a humid climate.
